      Diploma Supplement

      General Remarks

The provision of Article 15, chapter B, of Law 3374/2005 (Gov. Gazette 189/2-8-2005 i. A) declares the issue of a Diploma Supplement, which is attached to the diplomas issued by H.E.Is. In addition, the Ministerial Decree No. F5/72535/B3/18-7-2006 (Gov. Gazette 1091/ 10-08-2006 i. B), as corrected by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport (Correction of Errors, Gov. Gazette 2161/8-11-2007 i. B), includes the Establishment of a Diploma Supplements.
In accordance to the provisions in above, the Diploma Supplement is an explanatory document which does not replace the official diploma or official transcripts provided by H.E.Is. It is attached to the undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas awarded by H.E.Is (diplomas, etc.).
The Diploma Supplement (a) is not a substitute for the original diploma and (b) does not guarantee Diploma’s recognition. Furthermore, the Diploma Supplement doesn’t include value judgments, declarations of equity or proposals regarding diploma’s recognition abroad.

      What is included

The Diploma Supplement is awarded together with the Master's Degree. The Diploma Supplement is a simple explanatory document, which provides additional information on the nature, level and content of the studies as well as on the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, facilitating the understanding of this information by H.E.I., employers and organizations outside our country.
As set out in the law and the relevant ministerial decree, Supplement’s basic content is identical for all H.E.Is. The same applies to Supplement’s form and sectors, which are eight (8) in total. These sectors are formed in white-sized writing paper, measuring approximately 30cm by 21cm, according to the formula provided for in the Ministerial Decree No. F5/72535/B3/18-7-2006 (Gov. Gazette 1091/ 10-08-2006 i. B), as corrected by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport (Corrections of Errors, Gov. Gazette 2161/8-11-2007 i. B).

      When is granted

The Diploma Supplement is issued together with the basic diploma and is automatically published both in Greek and in English, without any financial burden. The date of Supplement’s issue does not necessarily coincide with diploma’s one, but may never be earlier.
The original Supplement must meet the conditions of authenticity required for diploma award. Supplement’s date of issue shall not necessarily coincide with diploma’s one, but may never be earlier than that. The name of the graduate student as well as his/her registration number should be indicated on each page of the Supplement.

      Implementation in the European Union

The implementation of Diploma Supplement’s award entered into force for all the countries members of the European Union, following a Resolution of the European Parliament (Decision No 2241/2004 on the single Community framework for the transparency of qualifications and competences), so that the transparency of the studies, qualifications and competences of EU countries’ H.E.Is graduates is defined in a uniform manner. The Greek Legislation was adopted on the basis of Law 3374/2005, Article 15 (Gov. Gazette A'189/2-8-2015).
The Diploma Supplement follows the model developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. Its aim is to provide sufficient independent data in order to improve international “transparency” and fair academic and professional recognition of diplomas (diplomas, certificates, etc.). It was designated to give a description of the kind, level, background, content and status of studies, which were successfully completed by the person indicated by name in the original of the diploma to which this supplement is attached.
      Responsible for Diploma Supplement
Responsible for Diploma Supplement at Democritus University of Thrace upon decision of University’s Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (No. 112/25-7-2012 at no. 857/24-7-2012) has been appointed the professor of Department of Physical Education, Mrs. Maria Michalopoulou.
