Strategic Planning Unit

The Strategic Planning Unit of the Democritus University of Thrace (SPU-DUTH) is an autonomous and independent body that reports directly to the Rector of the University and collaborates with the University’s Governing Council.

The mission of the SPU-DUTH is to draft the University’s strategic plan and prepare proposed programme agreement plans.

The SPU-DUTH was established by Senate decision XXXX, in accordance with the provisions of Article 216 of Law 4957/2022.

The objectives of the SPU-DUTH include the design, development, elaboration, and planning of the Strategic Plan and development model of DUTH, ensuring that these are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable, while promoting the development and continuous improvement of the University’s services across all areas of activity.

To formulate proposals to the University’s competent administrative bodies and support informed decision-making on setting the University’s key short- and medium-term goals, describing necessary actions, determining required resources, and monitoring the implementation, performance, and evaluation of proposed actions and tools, the SPU-DUTH collects and processes all relevant data and information related to DUTH’s operations.

The mission of SPU-DUTH includes:

1. Preparing a proposal for the University’s Strategic Plan
2. Drafting proposed programme agreement plans under Article 15 of Law 4653/2020
3. Evaluating development plan proposals submitted by DUTH’s academic and research units, as well as plans for:
4. i) digital transformation,
5. ii) equal access for individuals with disabilities and special educational needs, and

iii) sustainable development.

These are then aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan.

1. Coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan, the programme agreements, and the institution’s annual target-setting process.

The SPU-DUTH is composed of two main bodies:

• The Strategic Planning Committee, and
• The Strategic Planning Office.

The term of the above committee is four years and coincides with the term of office of the Rector of DUTH.

The Executive Director of the University and the Head of the Strategic Planning Unit participate in committee meetings without voting rights.
