Academic Studies Advisor

All study programmes at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) implement the institution of the Academic Studies Advisor. The Academic Studies Advisor (ASA) is a member of the teaching staff who supports and guides undergraduate and postgraduate students throughout their studies.

The ASA has an advisory role regarding the student’s academic progress, is available for ad hoc meetings to provide support or refer students to specialised services (such as the Counselling and Psychological Support Centre) in cases where personal difficulties affect academic performance, monitors student progress, and encourages the achievement of their professional goals.

Each student is assigned an Academic Studies Advisor who remains the same throughout the course of their studies. In the event of the advisor’s prolonged absence (e.g., research or study leave), the Department Assembly assigns the students to another member of academic staff.

Contacting the Academic Studies Advisor

Academic Studies Advisors provide their telephone number and institutional email address to facilitate communication with students (either in person, by phone, or online). Meetings between the ASA and students may take place individually or in groups. Students may also request one-to-one sessions.

All discussions are confidential, and the student’s personal data are protected by the ASA. The ASA may only access a student’s personal academic information (e.g., academic transcript) with the student’s written consent.

The role of the Academic Studies Advisor is strictly advisory and in no case binding. All decisions concerning a student’s academic path or individual academic matters are exclusively the responsibility of the student and reflect their personal choices.

Further details regarding the implementation of the Academic Studies Advisor system can be found in the relevant Regulation, which forms part of the DUTH Internal.
