Training and Lifelong Learning Centre
The Training and Lifelong Learning Centre (TLLC-DUTH) is an independent academic unit of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), with distinct administrative bodies from those of DUTH, and is automatically registered in the Registry of Lifelong Learning Centres (LLC).
The purpose of the TLLC-DUTH is to organise all types of educational and training programmes that do not fall under formal education. To achieve this, the scientific personnel and infrastructure of DUTH are utilised in actions and programmes addressed to both the Greek and international community. These programmes aim at certified training and education of human resources, either by updating and/or upgrading knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired through formal and informal education systems, professional specialisation, and initial vocational training, or by complementing work experience. They facilitate entry or re-entry into the labour market, ensure employment, and promote professional and personal development, while strengthening the link between the productive sector and DUTH.
Specifically, the key areas of action for TLLC-DUTH include:
- The organisation, development, and delivery of training programmes, non-formal learning, continuing vocational education, reskilling, upskilling, general adult education, counselling and career guidance, and lifelong learning programmes for DUTH students and graduates, as well as for the general public.
- The provision of up-to-date knowledge and skills based on developments in science, technology, and the economy, and the structural changes in employment due to emerging professions and specialisations.
- The enhancement of adult education and training based on outcome-focused teaching and the achievement of specific learning outcomes, in accordance with European and international standards.
- The organisation, development, and delivery of programmes in the form of winter and summer schools.
- The organisation of workshops, conferences, and seminars on subjects related to the Centre’s activities.
- The development and production of printed and digital educational material.
- The conclusion of contracts for the organisation and implementation of training programmes for personnel in private or public sector organisations.
- The drafting of studies and provision of expert opinions on issues relevant to the Centre’s activities.
- The formulation of educational policy proposals and the development of Lifelong Learning, as derived from monitoring trends in the field, relevant European and national policies, and institutional changes and regulations.
- The conclusion of programme agreements related to the Centre’s activities.
- Collaboration with other TLLCs in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), foreign universities, and research and technology bodies as defined in Article 13A of Law 4310/2014 (Government Gazette A’ 258), as well as other research and technology organisations, for the development of joint educational initiatives.
- Qualification certification within the framework of developing a qualification certification system for outputs of non-formal and informal education and training.
The Operating Regulation of the TLLC-DUTH, which forms part of the Internal Rules and Regulations of DUTH, provides a detailed description of the Centre’s purpose, organisation, and operation, as well as the coordination and management procedures for educational and training programmes that do not fall under formal education.
