Student Advocacy Office
The Student Advocate is an independent office under the authority of the Rector or the competent Vice-Rector. It was established by Senate Decision No. 23/9/17.1.2019 of the Democritus University of Thrace (Government Gazette 98 B’/24-01-2019) and continues to operate under the provisions of Articles 461(2) and 130 of Law 4957/2022.
The mission of the Student Advocate is:
- a) to mediate between students (undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral candidates) and academic staff or administrative services of the University,
- b) to ensure compliance with the law within the context of academic freedom,
- c) to address incidents of maladministration, and
- d) to safeguard the smooth functioning of the University.
The responsibilities and mediation procedures are detailed in the relevant Regulation, which forms part of the Internal of the Democritus University of Thrace.
By decision of the University Senate, the Student Advocate is Professor Marika Giouni of the Department of Law, School of Law.
