Internal Rules and Regulations

The Internal Rules and Regulations of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) were approved by the DUTH Senate on the 13th of June 2024, under decision 36/114/13-6-2024, and were published in the Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ) 4751/20-08-2024 (Vol. B).

These regulations define the internal operations of the Institution. They include provisions regulating the organisation of study programmes across all cycles (first, second, and third), such as the examination and assessment procedures, the degrees awarded, the graduation process, conditions for participation in exam periods, reexamination procedures, and the balance between compulsory and elective courses. They also specify students’ rights and obligations, provide guidance for their support, and establish special provisions for students with disabilities or educational needs. Furthermore, the regulations include measures for the evaluation of teaching by students, the terms and conditions for the ranking of graduates through entrance exams, the recognition of credits from other study programmes, and the participation process for students in internal mobility.

Additional provisions regulate the functioning of the institution’s governing bodies and services, the procedure for drafting annual reports, the awarding of honorary academic titles, and the rules for ceremonies and public relations. The regulations also cover the operation of libraries, laboratories, clinics, museums, and other research or academic units, the conditions for granting scholarships based on social or academic criteria, security and safety issues within the institution, and the organisation and functioning of collective and single-member bodies and committees. It also sets the minimum number of teaching and research staff per department, and the criteria for establishing departments.

Moreover, the regulations address matters related to the selection and employment of adjunct faculty, the conferral of Emeritus and Honorary Professorship titles, as well as service status, selection, rights, and duties of faculty, research, and other staff. The regulations also define the details of forming and operating the committees foreseen by law or the institution itself, the potential establishment of an economic council, and its related responsibilities. Finally, the regulations cover any other matters arising from the application of current legislation.
