Equal Access Unit

The Equal Access Unit of Democritus University of Thrace (EAU-DUTH) supports students with disabilities and/or special educational needs by offering targeted services to improve accessibility in the learning process, strengthen personal development skills, provide tailored academic support, and promote equal participation in all activities within the University and the wider community. 

Mission of the EAU-DUTH: 

  • To ensure equal access to academic studies for students with diverse abilities and needs. 
  • To guarantee equal and unrestricted participation in University life and in all activities related to their academic experience.

Services Provided by Specialised Staff 

  • Psychosocial Support: Counselling services offered by trained psychologists and social workers. 
  • Transport Service: Free transport for students with mobility or other difficulties between their homes and the University. 
  • Digital Accessibility: Technical support and software to convert educational materials into accessible formats, such as DAISY and EPUB. 
  • Support in the Learning Process: Measures and practices designed to facilitate participation of all students, regardless of disability or learning difficulty. 
  • Accessible Textbooks & Assistive Technologies: Provision of e-books, screen reading systems, magnification tools, and text-to-speech software. 
  • Training & Awareness: Workshops for students on equal access practices and awareness-raising events. 

The EAU-DUTH serves all undergraduate and postgraduate students with disabilities and/or special educational needs at the University. All services are provided free of charge.
