Academic Calendar
The academic year begins on 1st September and ends on 31st August of the following year. The educational programme of each academic year is structured into two teaching periods—the academic semesters (winter and spring)—during which the compulsory and elective educational activities of the study programmes are scheduled.
Each academic semester consists of a teaching period (teaching semester) and an examination period. Every teaching semester includes at least thirteen (13) full weeks of instruction, in accordance with the academic calendar for the start and end of semesters, which is determined annually by a Senate decision each March. This calendar specifies:
- the start and end dates of classes for both the winter and spring semesters,
- the start and end dates of the examination periods for the winter and spring semesters, as well as the September resit examination period,
- the holiday periods for Christmas and Easter, and
- all other public holidays (national holidays, local celebrations, etc.).
The academic calendar may be amended by decision of the Senate, following a reasoned proposal by the Department Assembly, in cases where educational activities could not be carried out due to force majeure.
Specifically, for clinical training courses in the final year of the School of Medicine, the academic workload is structured into three (3) teaching periods, each comprising twelve (12) full weeks.
