Depart. of History and Ethnology

The Department of History and Ethnology at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) was established in 1990. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies. The undergraduate curriculum is structured around two academic disciplines: History and Ethnology/Anthropology. Students receive balanced training in both scientific fields. Graduates can pursue careers in education as Philology teachers and work in institutions related to culture and heritage. The Department offers the following postgraduate programs: “Studies in Local History: Interdisciplinary Approaches” An inter-institutional postgraduate program in collaboration with the School of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki titled “History of Medicine and Biological Anthropology: Health, Disease, and Natural Selection”. Another inter-institutional program in cooperation with the Department of Philology and the Department of Primary Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and the Department of Primary Education at the University of the Aegean, titled “Folklore and Cultural Management.”
