Ethics Committee

An Ethics Committee has been established and is operating at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), pursuant to Decision No. 6/7/18-05-2023 of the University’s Governing Council. The Committee is composed of four (4) academic staff members (faculty) from different schools of the University, where possible, and one of the Vice Rectors, who serves as Chair. The Ethics Committee is specifically responsible for the following:

  1. a) Drafting the “Code of Conduct & Good Practice” for academic, administrative, and research matters, which is approved by the Senate and forms part of the University’s Internal Regulations.
  2. b) Ensuring the observance and implementation of ethical rules by all members of the University, and identifying any violations thereof.
  3. c) Preparing an annual report regarding the observance, implementation, or need for revision of the ethical rules. This report is submitted to the Rector and forwarded to the University Senate at the beginning of each academic year.
  4. d) Investigating, either ex officio or upon receipt of a written report or complaint from students, faculty, special educational staff, special technical laboratory staff, laboratory teaching staff, researchers, visiting lecturers, or administrative personnel. It determines whether there has been a breach of ethical rules or investigates related incidents following the Rector’s instructions. If a breach or a disciplinary offence is found, the Committee forwards its findings to the Rector for further assessment and action.
  5. e) Drafting the Conflict of Interest Regulation and the Protocols for Addressing Incidents of Fraud and Corruption, in collaboration with the Student Advocacy Office. This is approved by the Governing Council and incorporated into the University’s Internal Rules and
The term of office of the Ethics Committee is two years.
