School of Classics and Humanities
Regarding the academic identity and distinct character of the School of Classical and Humanities Studies, it is noted that its primary mission is the study of humanity and its works across time (antiquity – medieval period – modern era – contemporary times), with a regional focus on Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Eastern Mediterranean basin. A central objective of the School is also the advancement of Modern Greek Studies—namely, the study of Modern Hellenism and Greek culture in all its aspects from the Fall of Constantinople to the present day. This includes language, literature and written tradition, comparative philology, history, folklore, social anthropology, archival science, cultural studies, art history, history of ideas, and other fields of the humanities centered on the cultural dimension of Modern Hellenism.
