Department of Civil Engineering

      The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the two first departments of Democritus University of Thrace along with the Law Department. It accepts approximately 190 students annually. 
      Its objective is the cultivation and advancement of the science and technology of Civil Engineering through knowledge production and transfer, the undertaking of scientific and technological research necessary for the training of scientists able to assume the calculation, study, maintenance and construction of standard and specialized engineering constructions of various sizes necessary for a country’s progress, the improvement of living standards of the population, the exploitation of its natural resources, etc. in combination with the cultivation of a sense of high social and civil responsibility, the provision of services to the public and individuals and, in general, with their contribution to the productive and developmental process of the country.
      The duration of undergraduate studies is five (5) years and they are organized in ten (10) academic semesters.
      Throughout their studies, students need to successfully complete 59 compulsory modules and 11 optional ones and, finally, carry out an original piece of research for their thesis in the last semester.
